Thanksgiving

This year we sit down with one less.
My brother.
Her husband.
Her son.
What grace do we create among us
now that our lynchpin is gone?

Raise a glass and stretch a hand
across the table, say
he was here once
he made us laugh
wasn't he infuriating
with his finger-pulling farts?

Poignant, evocative & vigorous at the same time. I lost a dear aunt--my favorite one left in the family--a year ago next week. The whole holiday season will be challenging this year. This piece resonates & captures the glaring absence of that empty seat at the table.

My neighbor lost her mother earlier this year and I know that this holiday season is hard for her. This holiday season is also hard on us...my bff's and I....as one of my bff's has brain cancer and this may be her last T-day and X-mas with us. Your poetry is very moving and I love it. Thanks for sharing

I really like this poem. It captures the experience of loss - the empty space left.

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving even though it was bittersweet.

take care,
Pat

Checked you out through Judy Wise's blog. What a great poem. Sums everything up ... her husband, my brother, her son ... you did a great job. femminismo
