I made this artist book about a year ago, and it's been traveling more than I have. Made at the Atlanta Printmakers Studio, "How to Distinguish Scents" is a prose poem with illustrations created with solar plates. I made about 16 plates over the course of several months and in different degrees of light. Some plates were exposed by the sun, others with the light table. After printing each plate, I distressed the pages with watercolor, ink and varnish, hung them out to dry and then stitched them together in a map fold structure.
Scents has been to the Asheville Book Works Bookopolis, and is in Abecedarian Gallery's smart picks. Next month, a copy will travel west to the San Diego Book Arts Third National Juried Exhibition. It will also debut in Atlanta at the Atlanta Public Library gallery (central branch). The reception for that show is May 6 at 7 p.m. in conjunction with Downtown's First Thursday gallery crawl.
